Once again, the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas has surprised people with a novel show of «Flamenco and bullfighting» which transported us to one of the most authentic Spanish settings, intermingling the undisputed relationship that represents the cultural soul of our country.

Javier Conde fought three bulls from Murube livestock, while singers Estrella Morente and Arcángel, with Pepe «Montoyita» and Antonio Muñoz Fernández on guitar, and Miguel Ángel «Orengo» playing the cajón, accompanied the bullfight with soleá, tangos, bulerías and bulerías vocals, recalling at various times Paco de Lucía and Enrique Morente.

The Mayor of La Unión, Francisco Bernabé, presided over the event, with the expert advice of Antonio González Barnes, and the veterinary counseling of José Antonio Jiménez.

The highlight of the flamenco bullfight occurred during the fighting of the third bull, which Javier Conde dedicated  to his father-in-law, the magnificent singer Enrique Morente. His wife, Estrella Morente, interpreted «Coplas por Bulerías» with references to her husband changing the lyrics of the bolero «Mira que eres Linda», producing one of the most intense and emotional moments of the event, and causing the public to respond with an emotional ovation.

After the celebration was finished, Estrella Morente and Arcángel surprised the audience circling the arena, with a friendly facing-off interpreting the theme «Tres Puñales» to the rhythm of tangos, making a perfect bullfighting image, that ended with the placing of the bullfighter’s cape in the center of the ring.

The torero and singers left triumphantly through the honorary front door of «La Cartuja» in a  late-evening La Unión event where, once again, the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas de La Unión could be credited with a triumphant success.

At the end of “Tauromaquia Flamenca”, the Mayor of La Unión gave a check with the donation made ​​by the industrial abattoir «La Plata» of Murcia for the flesh of the bulls that had been sacrificed, to the president of the local chapter of the Spanish Association Against cancer in La Unión, José María Alcalde Méndez.
